Rajkot do serves as a good destination for holidaying. Tourism in the
city is slowly but steadily picking up. It is for the reason that the
city is replete of interesting and cool places to visit. Besides, there
are certain places, monuments in the city that are of immense historic
significance. Two of these include the school from where Mahatma Gandhi
graduated his high school, and the place where he lived. The school is
known as Mahatma Gandhi High School, prior to this the school was called
Alfred High School. Whereas, the place where he lived his early
childhood did not changed its name. The residence is called Kaba Gandhi
No Delo, deriving the name from Mahatma Gandhi's father's name, Kaba
Gandhi. Today, both of these are popular attractions in the city. The
latter one, that is Gandhi's residence is turned into a fine museum
still housing the belongings of Mahatma, and the articles that he used
at some point in his life.
Founded by Thakur Saheb Vibhaji Ajoji Jadeja, Rajkot was the seat of the
Jadeja clan since 1612 AD. Today, it is the a major centre of commerce
and administration as it is the fourth largest city in the state of
Gujarat. The city finds fame for jewellery, in fact it has one of the
largest markets of gold. The market is known as Soni Bazaar and is the
core of action in the city. Being a popular landmark, the bazaar is easy
to access. All the modes of local transportation are available to the
bazaar. Additionally, there also a couple of good hotels from the long
Rajkot hotels list, that exist in the market area. Apart from gold and
jewellery, Rajkot is also famous for producing watch parts, silk
embroidery, and its long association with reagality.
Rajkot tourism is a slip into the past; it is an opportunity to
experience the regal hospitality and history. The city has number of
attractions, and before one slips to the tourist destinations located in
the vicinity to Rajkot, a visit to all the city's allures and
attractions is a must.
If one is into exploring the wilderness, there is an excellent sanctuary
in the vicinity of the city. The sanctuary is called the Rampara
Wildlife Sanctuary, and a day's excursion is sufficient to explore and
relish the tour of the place. The sanctuary is more of a compact
woodland that is home to a diverse and wide species of flora and fauna.
This includes: 130 birds species,
20 species of mammals and reptiles, and about 280 species of flora. The
major highlights of the forest include: Blue Bull, Fox, Chinkara,
Hyena, and Wolf. The sanctuary was declared a reserved forest in 1983,
which was the result of the efforts of the government to protect and
provide shelter to wild animals. Before being a reserve forest the place
belonged to the Wankaner princely state and used to be their hunting
ground.
